Acceptance of Terms

By downloading, installing, or using the Mess Book app, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Use. If you do not agree with any part of these terms, please do not use the app.

Use of the App

Mess Book is provided for personal, non-commercial use to help individuals and groups track shared and personal expenses. You agree to:

• Use the app only for its intended purpose - tracking shared and personal expenses.
• Provide accurate information when creating your account or joining a group.
• Keep your login credentials secure and not share them with others.
• Not attempt to misuse, reverse-engineer, copy, or modify the app or its content.
• Not use the app for any illegal or unauthorised purpose.

Intellectual Property

All content, trademarks, logos, and intellectual property within the Mess Book app belong to Team Mess Book. You may not copy, reproduce, distribute, or create derivative works from any part of the app without our prior written consent.

User Responsibilities

You are responsible for all activity that occurs under your account. This includes:

• Ensuring the accuracy of expenses and data you enter.
• Any disputes that arise between you and other group members regarding recorded expenses.
• Keeping your device secure and your app updated.

Mess Book is a record-keeping tool. We do not mediate financial disputes between users.

Data Retention and User Data

Shared group expenses (mess bills, general expenses, rent, and utilities) are retained on our servers for a maximum of 3 months. This limit is in place to promote financial discipline and encourage groups to settle dues regularly. Data older than 3 months may be permanently deleted from our systems.

Personal expenses (income, daily spending, money sent home, borrowed, and lent) are stored on your device. You can turn on Google Drive backup at any time from within the app to keep a copy in your own Google account, or export the data as a CSV or PDF file.

Internet Connection

Some features of Mess Book require an active internet connection. We are not responsible if certain features do not work because you do not have access to Wi-Fi or mobile data. Any data charges from your network provider are your responsibility.

Limitation of Liability

Mess Book is provided "as is." We make every effort to keep the app available and error-free, but we do not guarantee uninterrupted service. To the fullest extent permitted by law, Mess Book is not liable for any direct or indirect loss resulting from your use of the app, including financial disputes between group members or loss of data due to the 3-month retention policy.

App Updates and Availability

We may release updates to the app from time to time to improve performance or add features. We recommend keeping the app updated to ensure the best experience. We reserve the right to discontinue the app or any of its features at any time, with or without notice.

Account Termination

You may delete your account at any time from the Profile section of the app. We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms.

Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms of Use from time to time. Changes will be posted in the app. Continued use of the app after any update means you accept the revised terms.
